Learning to dive is easy and while you might choose to learn in a local swimming pool it can be much more rewarding to learn in the warm waters of a tropical reef. The Red Sea offers some of the best diving in the world and has the advantage of being accessible and affordable with a wide variety of resorts on offer from the luxurious to the remote. The Indian Ocean also has plenty of excellent diving opportunities in the Maldives and Seychelles while Africa offers the relatively undiscovered reefs off Mozambique. Australia boasts its magnificent barrier reef – and dedicated enthusiasts might consider Manado, Guadacanal or Dominica. If dive resorts aren’t your thing then there are many “liveaboard” options where you simply step off your floating hotel into the big blue!
