USA, Canada & Caribbean
Some would regard North America and the Caribbean as mainstream destinations with little to offer the adventurous traveller – but away from the resorts, glitzy cities and cruise culture is an area full of interest.
The far north of Canada and Alaska offer a wide range wilderness and wildlife experiences. The Rockies offer superb hiking - surprisingly uncrowded when you get beyond the end of the road. North America also has the advantage of being easy travelling – everything works and there are no language barriers. In a similar vein few view the Caribbean as diverse but from the top of Jamaica’s Blue Mountains (British Colonial, Reggae, etc … ) you can see Cuba (Spanish Colonial, Communist, etc … ) and Haiti (French Colonial and the first black independent country in the world). Even the popular resort islands of Barbados and the various Saints (Lucia, Vincent, Martinique, etc… ) have plenty to offer beyond beaches in their lush mountainous interiors and colourful underwater reefs.
